A prominent physician who practices addiction medicine and is also in recovery once said, “When I walked through the doors of treatment I was all over the DSM Axis I and II. I had symptoms of depression, what appeared to be bi-polar disorder, and a host of other things going on with me.” Addiction commonly runs alongside, or is the cause of, many different mental health diagnoses. Some mental health issues lead to addiction.
At GMTC, we understand this relationship between addiction and other issues, and our clinical team is prepared to deal with them in an effective way. This process begins with clearing the body of substances, and on to various assessments and evaluations to determine what’s going on, followed by applying a comprehensive treatment plan.
We take a thoughtful and grounded approach to treating dual-diagnosis, leading with an excellent therapeutic approach coupled with state-of-art pharmacology. As an abstinence-based center, we do not use any addictive medication in the treatment of mental health issues, but rather a holistic approach that addresses mind, body and spirit. As we sort out exogenous and endogenous causes of factors in both addiction and mental health, we craft a treatment plan for each individual that minimizes the need medications and helps our clients experience recovery in its fullest form.
Our clinical and medical teams work together to deliver the highest quality treatment program in the New England and Atlantic states. These experts have decades of addiction treatment and counseling experience, and coupled with our experienced and highly-trained medical, recovery and direct care staff they create the environment for a full and complete life change – a personality change sufficient to recover.
